The Higher Education Commission has announced scholarships for undergraduate students from Gilgit Baltistan to pursue their studies at top Pakistani universities and institutions. These scholarships are available for those planning to enroll in four or five-year BS programs offered by HEC-recognized public sector universities and degree awarding institutions (DAIs). The initiative, titled “Undergraduate Scholarship Program for the Students of Gilgit-Baltistan in Top Pakistani Universities/Institutions (Batch-II),” offers scholarships for the academic year 2022-23 across all fields of study:
Applications must be submitted by October 24, 2022, through the HEC portal. Paper-based applications will not be accepted. Interested candidates should apply via https://eportal.hec.gov.pk and submit the application processing fee to the designated HEC account.
Key Features of the HEC GB Scholarship:
- Covers tuition fees, hostel charges, and other expenses, up to a maximum of Rs. 240,000 per year
- Includes a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000
- Provides a books and travel allowance of Rs. 30,000 per annum
Eligibility Criteria for HEC Undergraduate Scholarship for GB Students:
- Applicants must have a domicile or local certificate from Gilgit-Baltistan.
- Applicants should have completed their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and/or Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or equivalent. Preference will be given to those who have completed these qualifications in Gilgit-Baltistan.
- Candidates currently benefiting from any other scholarship are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants can apply to any public sector university or institution in Pakistan, but any costs beyond those specified in PC-1 will be the student’s responsibility.
- The maximum age limit is 22 years as of the application deadline.
- Candidates must fulfill HEC and university admission criteria for BS programs.
Important Information:
- Shortlisting will be based on the Aptitude Test score (conducted by the Education Testing Council, HEC) and academic records.
- A minimum of 50% marks in the aptitude test is required.
- Students already enrolled in a public sector university or institution’s BS program (up to one academic year/session prior to the advertisement) can also apply.
- Scholarships will be awarded without discrimination based on gender, caste, race, or religion.

- HEC reserves the right to postpone or cancel the scholarship process without giving a reason.
- Deposit a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500/- into Account No. 17427900133401 at Habib Bank Limited, SRC H-9 Branch, Islamabad. Upload a scanned copy/image of the bank receipt during the online application.
- Application deadline: September 31, 2023. Candidates are advised to regularly check their emails and the HEC website for updates. Early application submission is recommended to seek assistance in case of any issues.
