Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has recently announced new employment opportunities for Pakistani Nationals in various positions. The PMD Jobs 2023 notice was published in the Daily Jang Newspaper, providing all necessary information regarding the current job openings, eligibility criteria, and application procedures. Providing weather forecasts and public warnings about the weather for safety, protection, and general information, PMD is an independent and autonomous organisation. There are 214 openings the PMD invites highly qualified, energetic, motivated, and hardworking individuals to join its team.

The available job positions are distributed on a regional/provincial and local quota basis. The vacancies are for Assistant, Meteorological Assistant, Data Entry Operator, Sub Engineer, Upper Division Clerk, Lower Division Clerk, Senior Observer, Radio Mechanic, Observer, Mechanic Grade-II, Driver, Lab Attendant, Balloon Maker, Naib Qasid, Chowkidar, Coolie, and Sweeper. Both males and females are eligible for these positions, and quotas for Minorities and Disabled Persons shall also be reserved.

To apply for these jobs, applicants must have educational qualifications ranging from Primary to Bachelor’s degree. The requisite skills and experience demands vary for each job position, and the age limit for each post is described in the career notice. However, the Government Recruitment Policy allows for relaxation in the upper age limit.

There are various quotas available for different regions and communities. Candidates from the scheduled castes, Buddhist Community, recognised tribes of Tribal Areas, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, for example, are given a 3 year remission for all positions under the Federal Government. Similar to this, candidates from Balochistan and Sindh Rural are granted a 3 year respite for positions in BPS-15 and lower under the Federal Government.
Released or retired officers/personnel of the Armed Forces of Pakistan are given a relaxation of 15 years. Government servants who have completed two years of continuous service on the closing date for receipt of applications are given a relaxation of 10 years. For BPS-15 and lower positions, disabled applicants are allowed a 10 year relaxation period, while widows, sons and daughters of dead civil servants who died in the line of duty are given a 5 year relaxation period.
